It depends on the firmware version that the router is running, but in general it works like this.

1) Go to the web interface of the browser. Linksys typically are found at 192.168.1.1

2) Click on the advanced tab.

3) Clikc on forwarding.

4) enter the ports/port ranges that you want to open. 5060 and some range in the 16000 I can't remember offhand.

5) Check the UDP box

6) Enter the IP address of the machine you want to forward to (the machine you want to use iChat AV on). If using dynamic addressing and this is the only machine on the netowrk, it will always be the address that you set to start addressing at.

^ I've opened up the ports that are mentioned in the Apple Knowledge base article ....

--------
UDP Ports
UDP Port 5060 is used by iChat AV for signaling and initiation of chat invitations. To use iChat AV behind a firewall, make sure your network administrator has opened UDP port 5060.

UDP Ports 16384 to 16403 are used to send and receive video and audio data. For any particular conference, 4 ports from that range of 20 are utilized.
One port is used for each of the following:
Video in
Video out
Audio in
Audio out
-------

However, I still cannot initiate a voice or video chat. What's wrong? Anybody else have the same problem?

I am using OS 10.2.6 with an iSight. Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 router. The actual computer is a 733 mhz g4 quicksilver.
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

iChat AV works for me without any ports opened on a linksys wireless G router. I think the problem may be with the computer and not the router -- iChat AV is still beta software, and some people just seem to not be able to get it to work.

^ it works ok, it just doesn't work when the router is connected, it appears. I took it off a few weeks ago, and everything worked fine. but I need to have the router in place so that the computer 40 ft away from the main computer has DSL access as well.
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!
