I got an iSight and I like it a lot. The best video conference camera I've used.

But there is something I don't like - the three stands that it ships with. In his keynote Steve Jobs made a big deal about the stands but I think they are no good.

The desktop stand is ok. Hard to mess that one up.

The laptop stand is really bad. I have tried it on the 17" PowerBook and the 12" white iBook. On the 17" it was hard to mount, always felt loose, and worst, it left marks on the lid from the thumbwheel rubber.

For the iBook the problem is different. When I use the thumbwheel to tighten it in place the round edges on the iBook lid causes the back of the stand to move upwards and eventually unmount it.

I have a 20" Cinema Display. This is where I am going to keep the camera. For attaching the iSight onto my beloved display they provide a stand which I have to "glue" onto the display. I did that but I didn't like it.

The last thing I don't understand about the mounting system is that you cannot use the iSight with a regular tripod. They should have provided adapters for tripods.

I love the camera but not the stands. What do others think?

Not sure what the problem is... but the laptop stand works great with my 17" PowerBook. One thing I did do, however, is buy the .5 meter Apple thin firewire cable and use that instead of the monstrosity they provide in the iSight box. It's not quite long enough to mount in the center but I mount it slightly off to the right. Works great and there's very little slack to get caught on something and yank the camera off. I will agree it's not super tight but it keeps the camera in place.

I'd be willing to bet that we'll see some third party mounts soon enough. Tripods, crt mounts, etc.

I hope so. I got an iSight last night and wasn't happy with the LCD mount at all. It really won't fit on the back of my non-Apple LCD. The iBook one works ok but I didn't really use it for an extended period...

Anyone tried it on an older Apple CRT? I have the 21" Apple Studio Display (CRT). I'm assuming the tabletop stand would work since the top of the CRT is essentially flat (very slightly curved).

I think I'm going to try to get one of these this weekend to play with! Even though I have NO ONE to chat with. I just want to spend some money on a cool gadget.
