I've heard nothing but bad reviews on the old model.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. I've never used one, but from what I hear it seems that they are best for people who live in areas where the radio frequencies aren't saturated. Many of the negative reviews seem to be from people who are having trouble finding a good frequency to use.

Actually, I've read more positive comments than negative.
I have 2 iTrips (one for the wife, actually), and they both work great! Not one complaint!

Mr Positive strikes again.
Would you have read the theads properly you would have seen that the reviews are mixed. Some people, me included, love their iTrips, others reported manufacturing faults. Nearly everyone ended up happy after replacements were shipped.

I almost returned my iTrip after I began to use. I was strictly following the recommended iPod volume level and getting very distorted audio via the iTrip. Once I dialed back the iPod volume to less than 40% I started getting very good audio quality - just as clear as a typical radio station. I used my iTrip on a recent vacation and it performed well in my Honda over an Alpine CD/Receiver.

Well I know the negative reviews you read about were in the threads I posted in becauase I saw you there; what did you just not bother reading the good review?
The iTrip is great, however some people have reported problem or where just unsatisfied with it. Personally I love it.

That's so untrue. My iTrip works fine. Visit www.ipoding.com for a fair review of iTrip.

Hmm, the overwhelming majority of reviews and comments that I have read about the iTrip have been positive.
