Hey all, im looking for a new firewire hard drive for my 17 pb. I dont need it to be very portable, becasue right now i only need it for files that i need access for at home. The size should be at least 60GB. I would however like to have a option, so i kinda want something that is portable (in a sense... so nothing huge is what im trying to say). Please give me links if possible, and any other advice is appriciated. Thanks a lot guys!!
Justin
P.S. If it has FW800 thats great, but the only ones i found were close to $800, and i dont really want to do there.

Hi,
I recently bought one of these.
http://www.coolerexpress.com/hd-ib-720fw.html
The 120Gb version. It's cheap, reasonably quiet and doesn't take up much space. It's portable, but you have to take the power supply with you.
Like you, I bought it for home storage, but its transportable if I needed to take it with me.
Cheers,
J.

I have one of these:
http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_It...em=OWCMEFWU2A6
You can either buy the enclosure and put your own drive in it (extremely easy) or buy it with a drive already installed. They sell the same thing in FW800 for $180. I like it because it's sharp-looking, has a nice blue power light, has versatile and compact feet, runs cool without a noisy fan, and is barely larger than the drive itself.
The drives at www.wiebetech.com also look nice.

OK, change of plans. I just found a great deal at Circuit City where they had a 120GB WD for $80 after mail in's! Retail is $140, so it was something i couldnt pass up. So, now my dilemma is which enclosure to get. The one from OWC looks cool, but are there any others out there? Can any of these enclosures be bus powered, or am i dreaming? Thanks again guys! (and gals )

I am in the market for a firewire drive for my new eMac. What is the best bus powered one around?

I personally love the Lacie PocketDrive FireWire + USB2 drives. And for a desktop drive their d2 drives are widely praised.

I had bad luck when I tried to get a working 2.5" external drive. Tried the "WB" brand but end up with a nor functioning drive and they don't answer my email. So I structed will a non-working enclosure and a working 2.5" harddisk. I then bought 2 drive enclosure locally and each cost over $100. They both didn't work on my powerbook Ti. The one made by DVICO work perfectly with a PC but just refused to wake up from sleep on a Mac!
Then I went out and buy a Lacie D2, for the few months I had it, it work 100% on my Mac so far.
Last week, I bought another 2.5" enclosure for $50 ( http://www.mapower.com.tw/) and this one seem to working on the Mac but it doesn't always regonised by a PC. Don't have time for more tests on it yet.

Go to pricewatch.com you can find enclosures for about $35 and then get your own hard drive to put in.
