Apologies for being the unlucky, angry consumer - I'm sure there are plenty of people happy with Epson printers - but my 830 is an absolute joke and I've read several complaints from others too. How is it they've maintained their reputation?

I scan these forums when planning a new purchase, so this is a vote against the 830 for anyone considering a printer.

It really can't do a thing right and I've given up. Are there any content HP/Canon, etc users with recommendations?

Actually, my new plan is to buy an inkjet and simply pay a commercial printer. Considering how quickly the 830 sucks ink (and won't print from the black cartridge when the colour is empty) it would probably be cheaper.

Grrrrrrrrrr...

I can't seem to find an 830 on Epson's website. New model?

Printers that are $150 or less are considered disposable. If it breaks, throw it away.

Epson's printers are awesome. I've got the Stylus Photo 890 ($299 at the time) and it works great.

Not a big fan of HP inkjets. Higher end HP laserjets are really good though.

The 830 is what they call the 820 in Europe.

Anyway, yeah, Epson's gone down the drain for desktop printers. Right now, the consensus is that Canon has a winning selection with the i850, i950 and i9100.

In the past 4 years, I have only needed two printers, both Epsons. One Scanner, an Epson. The first printer died due to operator error, BTW.

I can't comment on other models, but my Stylus Photo 785EPX is perfect in regards to image quality, features, and price. My next printer will be the one that prints directly to CD's, the 925 I think.
