Does imovie or Final Cut Pro recognize the Studio DV as a firewire camera? I ask this because I would like to use this to import the video/audio directly into FCP or iMovie (FCP pref.) This would save the step of converting it into FCP.

Yes. Actually, that's the purpose of the device AFAIK, to import video into iMovie and FCP as a valid DV stream.

I was wondering about this because Director's cut totally advertises it as a key feature yet it's about $200 more expensive than the studio DV
