Today my iCurve died - its left arm snapped off...while my powerbook was sitting on it.

It wasn't under any extreme pressure during its life, it wasn't mishandled, it was just sitting on a desk with my powerbook on top.

I started using it when it was first introduced but I would have hoped it would last longer.

I've been thinking about getting one of those for my tibook. How long did you have it? Have you been using a seperate keyboard, or typing on the pb key board? Was your 'book damaged when it fell?

That's *very* unusual, not common at all...think about it guys, how many ppl have graced these boards and praised their iCurves? How many have broke? One.

So don't fret, it's not like an epidemic or anything, it's just one flawed item...I'd call up Griffin and tell them what happened and they should surely send you another one as what happened to you isn't common whatsoever. Good luck!

I got it at MacExpo London in November 2002, one of the first people in the UK to get an iCurve in fact.

I've been using a separate keyboard (Apple Pro) rather than typing on it.

The corner of my powerbook was slightly damaged unfortunately - slightly dented and scratched - I would post photos but my iSight isn't expected for ages.

My room is always very warm which is why I regularly use the iCurve - to get more air under the machine rather than just having it sit on my glass desk.

Don't get me wrong I love the iCurve and if they won't send me a replacement I'll buy another, I just would have expected it to last longer especially since its designed to have such an expensive piece of equipment sitting on it.

the least they could do is send you a new iCurve after that one damn near crippled your powerbook.

Hmm... it makes me wonder if the heat generated from the PB helped to degrade the iCurve's integrity... on the left side, right?

Maybe Griffin could consider making a metal iCurve instead?

I'd buy one

Exactly...that would be cool - I'd certainly buy one...provided it doesn't melt under the powerbooks 'immense heat'.

I've had my iCurve for about 9 months and it's been perfect.
I'd bet Griffin would at least replace the iCurve if it were defective (it seems from your description that it's defective)

I've e-mailed them explaining the situation and have yet to receive a response.
