Is the T300 phone compatible with iSync if you've got the USB data cable for it? The T300 is as capable (sans Bluetooth) as the T68i but signifigantly cheaper. My brother is on the lookout for a new phone but doesn't necessarily want to spend the money on a T68i AND a BT dongle for his iBook and I've already got a USB data cable.

Well... the T68i and Nokia 3650 are both Bluetooth capable and can be had for free on Amazon.com with service activation. The Siemens S56 also syncs with Bluetooth. However I believe the T68i can only be had on AT&T since T-Mobile dropped the phone because of customer complaints.
If your brother lives in a rural area, the T68i has infamously shoddy reception (the T300 is only marginally better). If Bluetooth isn't necessary, the Motorola T720 and V6x sync via iSync as well. The Moto C331/C333 also sync with iSync but that phone is a P.O.S. (IMHO of course)

Both my brother and I are AT&T customers and are sticking with it so we aren't going to be elligible for new customer discounts. He's aware of that but is looking for a new phone anyways. I have a T68i that I just bought but am seriously considering returning it because it indeed has crappy reception though the Bluetooth capability is awesome. I'm steering him away from a T68i but the T300 is pretty decently priced.
It seems like all the compatible iSync phones cost upwards of four trillion dollars which is definitely not in my brother's budget. A BT phone for him isn't a good option because it requires the extra expense of a BT adapter for his iBook.

Is your contract up? Most companies offer you lower prices on phones to keep you with them. You can get the same kind of deals as a new customer.

I am looking into cell phones right now and from what I read and reviewed over, the T300 has everything I could need - except I wasn't sure if it would sync at all with my PowerBook. Its a titanium, so there isn't an infrared port. Are you sure it can sync with isync via a usb cable? On the Sony Ericsson page, it makes no mention of usb, so I'm not sure how it could communicate with the mac.
If it does have a usb port, then I will definitely have to get this phone. Right now, I can get it with the T-Mobile National Basic Plus plan (300 anytime mins, unlimited weekends) for only 30 dollars per month and the phone with the camera attachment is free.
Please let me know about the usb compatibility, thanks!

As far as I can tell iSync does not work with the T300 but there are other programs like Jonas Salling's Ericsson Client that ought to work. Ericsson Client can transfer files and do synching with several SE phones via IrDA, Bluetooth, and USB cable. The T300 is becoming very popular and Salling's message board has lots of requests for support of the phone. When I last checked he was working on supporting the T300/306/310. When support is added the T300 becomes a very very good deal for a phone.

I just noticed something extremely weird when I was reading a review of this phone... maybe I am overreacting, but in this review, one of the examples of the phones wallpaper looks exactly like a desktop I designed and later had posted on ResExcellence. Its uncanny...
Here is the review page
I'm not sure they ripped off my picture or anything, but its so wierd that I made this wallpaper and it looks just like what they have on the little t300 screen. I'm sure I did design it, because I remember using a KPT5 frax filter for the swirls...
Here it is at ResExcellence from May 2002 (called Fraxed Up). You can still even download it and see my read me!
The more I think about it, the more I think I'm having a strange dream or something... its just weird to see something you did like that.
Here is a comparison for people who can't click links:
I guess I should take it as a compliment? (I didn't even think it was that good)

I talked to the guy that runs the site, and he had no idea, he was just using a theme from their theme archives. He told me about this theme and we both emailed the guy who did the theme.
The funny thing was, the theme had been downloaded 5086 times!

Oops. I overreacted (typical for me).
I thought Sony had stolen your theme.
Sorry. Double sorry to the person I told you to sue.

Back to the subject: Can anyone tell me if they are positive that you can use a usb cable to connect the t300 to the mac? I still only see it using infrared, so I was not sure.

It seems as though Ericsson Client works if you've got a normal serial adapter like a Keyspan and plug in your DRS-11 or DCU-10 adapters to it. My DCU-11 (USB) adapter is not working at all on my Mac. It doesn't seem to have any Mac drivers and thus is not showing up as a valid serial device for Ericsson Client to use. If you go the RS232-Keyspan adapter route your T300 ought to link up just fine with your Mac using Ericsson Client.

Well apparently not. I found a beta driver for the DCU-11 from its chipset manufacturer. It is recognized by OSX as a serial device, one I can even interact with in minicom to boot. Ericsson Client however does not connect to the T306. It recognizes there is a phone available and tries to talk to it but refuses to connect. I e-mailed Ericsson Client's developer offering to help support the T3xx line of phones but he said he was too busy to put anymore work into Ericsson Client. Unfortunately it seems as though we're sort of stuck with the T300 unless someone can convince Apple it'd be worthwhile to support it in iSync.
