I was trying out my new iSight today deciding where to stick the CRT stand on my Apple 17" Studio Display (the last apple CRT) when the bloody thing fell off, I caught it but it knocked against the monitor.

Here just now I noticed what looked like a stain on my display. Shocked to see its some sort of scratch, not into the glass but looks like it tore a layer of film off the display and its obscuring everything below it!

Does anyone have any ideas on if this can be fixed somehow? this really sucks!

Try calling TekServe. They should be able to offer some good advice.

If you need have somebody fix it, don't send it off to AppleCare until you take pictures of the exterior of your monitor first, and then get in touch with a manager at AppleCare to ship it to directly via your local Apple Store (unless you can get TekServe to fix it, instead). Many users have recently been having problems with AppleCare scratching their Macs.

Your lucky. Mine fell off a moving cart. Stupid mover. Screwed up the picture tube and killed the color at the edges. So now I have as of today a 20" cinema display. Love it, and its smaller size but I would never had bought it had my trusty CRT Studio Display not been dropped

I've seen webpages giving hints on buffing out scratches in CRTs, but nothing on reparing scratches in the non-glare coating so I guess its there to stay. I wonder if I had a flat panel display and the same thing happened if it would have scratched so easy.

Ah well, I guess I will have to live with the mark until I save enough to upgrade to an LCD

Cheers
