Maybe you can try using some type of glue remover without hurting the display?

At Apples support pages, ppl say that the glue will come off if you pull it hard enough. It is made for that (and to be reusable).

Use at own risk though.

If there's anything left of the glue on the top of the display (NOT the monitor itself, just the casing), you can use Goo Gone to get rid of it. The stuff works for anything!

Goo Gone rocks. I have only ever met one adhesive that it wasn't able to remove.

And it smells of orange oil! (At some point along the line, they reformulated it from petroleum-based to citrus-based.)

Which adhesive?

The citrus smell only adds to the loveliness of the product

I agree! I've been tempted to just saturate a cloth with it and stick it on a plate as an air freshener, LOL!

Anyway, the unresponsive adhesive was the one Maytag used to attach the Energy Efficiency Rating tag onto my window air conditioner unit.

Considering you were complaining that you couldn't remove it at all a few days ago, I would think you would be relieved that it does indeed come off. Give me a break. Just leave the stand on your display and use the desk stand when you're at someone else's house. I think your friends will be able to handle seeing your face at an angle from time to time.

Wrong, I tried to get if off and I couldn't, well I am sure I wouldn't be able without snapping it in two.

It says in the iSight instructions that it can be removed a few times but will lose the stickyness

take it into an Apple Store and tell them to get it off... if they break the stand (or the monitor) getting it off, they have to give you a replacement, no?

Dab some lighter fluid on a rag and wipe off the glue. It'll eat through most adhesives.

And possibly damage the plastic on the monitor, no?

tie one end of a piece of string to the mount and the other end to a door handle, hold the monitor steady and then slam the door.

Not if you just dab it on the cloth. If you submerge the monitor in the fluid, yeah. But a tiny amount of lighter fluid will remove most adhesives and either be wiped away or evaporate before any damage takes place.

You might also try adding LOW heat (minus the lighter fluid) to help loosen it, such as a hair dryer. A heat gun is probably out of the question, though.

I see the potential for catastrophic disaster in this thread...

I'm waiting for the "Paint thinners ate my Cinema Display" thread...

On an kind of unrelated note, I saw a mate of mine accidentally melt his cell phone by accident today. He had it in his top shirt pocket, bent over to mix some spray paint, and out it fell into the vat of thinners...

All that was left was a lump of plastic with a screen.

FWIW, Cinema/Studio Display owners should have a look at SightClips.
