I have a simple question, I have been reading up on iChat AV and the iSight camera. Do you need to have a .Mac account in order to use it?
I have read on some websites that you do, but other sites make no mention of it, as long as you have broadband and a G3 600+ machine.
I am thinking of getting the iSight, but am hesistant as I have no .Mac account (which is $100 a year. What gives?

I have an iSight and I don't have a .mac account. I use my regular AOL screen name. I know of one other person who has a camera and we have video conferenced .... but I also use the iSight to send one-way video to another iChat user. The only limitation is that you need to use iChat (or any of the other programs that have been listed elsewhere in the forums). It would be nice if other AOL IM members (ie .... PC users) could incorporate the video streams.

Hope the helps.

I have a slightly different question. I have a .Mac account and have an email account for my wife through that subscription. So, are we able to use iChat AV and iSight when either one of us is traveling? Thanks.

iSight/iChat has nothing to do with .Mac at all, except that you can use your .mac account names as your iChat names. You don't need to be a member to use it.

You should be fine. If you have an email ending in @mac.com, you can log into iChat. Also, you can get the free AIM name.
