Sorry to exhume an old thread ...
WHY WHY WHY does my f***ing Canon LiDE 30 STILL not work? I've read about all the problems - the drivers for the scanner buttons causing hell in the back-end of your machine, not being able to put the machine to sleep, etc.
Things seemed to be OK, but now it looks like there's no hope. Keeping the crap that Canon install in CFMSupport means my machine won't sleep (removing the button drivers stops the Console log panic, but doesn't solve the sleep problem); trashing everything in CFMSupport means that the scanner no longer works.
Did anyone ever find a way around this, or do I simply take this thing back to the shop?
I've had my Mac for seven months and I'm getting tired of feeling like a second-rate computer user.

Mine seems to work perfectly... Are you sure you have the latest software?

Mine works perfectly also...
Search this forum, there are a couple of tips.
Sure the installer is not the best and puts one unwanted "button manager". But it works...

The only time my 30 has cause sleep problems is when the extraneous button manager was keeping the hard disk spinning by filling my logs. Otherwise, my machine sleeps/wakes fine.
Are you plugging the scanner into a built-in usb port, or an aftermarket USB 2 card?

Apologies - this has been a very up and down issue for me.
I've removed both button managers, which stops all the madness in the Console Log, but my machine won't sleep.
These are the files I have left in CFMSupport:
N067U_Library.shlb
N124U_Library.shlb
NBS4mb_carbon.shlb
rmslantc_carbon.shlb
I know the first two relate to button management. I've experimented with removing more of these files, but the scanner is no longer recognised.
I'm off to try them all one by one...
I've made two scans when the scanner has been working and, yes, they're great. If I can only sort out this insomnia issue...

Hmmmm.
Just removed all files that appear to be related to LiDE 20 support and now the scanner is dead again.
Here's the original post documneting the problem.
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=132661
Some people seemed to get it sorted and others didn't.
I just don't seem to be able to get a nice, functional scanner (import in Elements is all I want!) AND have the sleep function working.

Is your machine able to sleep again? Here is what I would do:
1. re-install the drivers for the scanner. Only re-install the "LiDE20_LiDE30_v7010X.app" installer, NOT the one with the toolbox.
2. Go to system preferences, login items and ensure that there are NO N067U or N124U related items in there. If there are delete them.
3. Reboot
Really, that should do it..

Do not delete all the N760 related files, ONLY the 760 button manager.
For some reason you have to leave some of the 760 libraries and preferences.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm installing the Scangear driver (file begins 'S2C03enx') - Canon offer this driver, the Toolbox and the Uninstall ones from their site.
Not sure if this is the same installation others have made.
I'll put more time into this tonight and report findings. Thanks for the help so far.

Kind of off-topic but...has anyone else here with the Canon LiDE 30 run into the problem of the CanoScan Toolbox not being able to assign an app to one of the scan buttons?
In the Toolbox prefs where it says "Link scanned image to" it seems to only accept apps that can natively run in both X and 9. For example, I can get it to accept GraphicConverter as the Scan app, but not Photoshop, Preview, etc. When clicking on the app's name in the "Set..." dialogue box, instead of activating the Open button, it shows the package contents of the selected app.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any way to fix?

Nope - it just isn't going to happen.
I can't understand how others have got their LiDE 30 to work fine with no sleep problems - I've tried so many things and downloaded everything I can find, in different orders, etc.
The choice is scan + insomnia or sleep + no scanner. Back to the shop...

To get Canoscan Toolbox to link to an application you need to show the application's Package Contents and then opening the Mac OS folder (for Mac OS X native applications) or MacOSClassic folder (for Classic applications) then select the application and open it.
Canon has an article about how to do this at:
http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCpr...;section=10145
I have a Canon LIDE 50 scanner.
There is only one button manager file in my CFM Support folder, CNQL1208_ButtonManager.
Remove this file and the buttons no longer function.
My console log is being constantly updated with the following line:
Call PushPollingButton()
My Console log file is expanding at an alarming rate
