I've recently semi-switched from PC to Mac and I'm enjoying it very much, but I'm having a little trouble with mouse tracking.
The problem is that the tracking doesn't seem very smooth. The mouse doesn't jump around the screen or anything, it just doesn't seem to glide smoothly in general, or accurately on small movements. I've tried both an Apple Pro mouse and Intellimouse Explorer and they have the same results. Adjusting the speed in the control panels makes them faster or slower, but doesn't help the smoothness.
I'm using a Gigabit G4 upgraded to an 800mhz processor, 1gb ram, Geforce 4 Ti, and 22" Cinema Display running OS 10.2. I've tried both the same mice on my imac 333 running OS 9.2 and 10.2 and they're very smooth and precise.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Jason

Sorry, haven't come across that problem. You might want to try searching through macfixit.com and their archives and faqs.

Perhaps it is the mousepad beside the PowerMac G4. Or the surface, if there is no mouse pad. Also, is there anything else on the same USB channel as the mouse? Something maxing out the USB bandwidth might produce symptoms like that.

Thanks... I've tried different surfaces and mousepads, and that didn't change it. I saw a post mentioning USB Overdrive, so I installed that. Mouse tracking is much smoother now when nothing is running, but for instance when I start up a song in iTunes, it becomes imprecise.
CPU usage in top shows about 12% used by iTunes. Could that be enough to bog down the system? I have a Wacom tablet which also tracks fairly imprecise when I hover the pen over the tablet, but becomes very smooth as soon as I press the tip down.
The mouse is plugged into the apple pro keyboard, which is plugged into the Cinema Display, which is plugged into a Geforce 4 Ti. I've tried unplugging the Wacom, and plugging the mouse in directly, which didn't change anything.
