It also cannot recognize my new Ipod. I try several way with USB and it just need me to reformat my new Ipod. Can someone please help me with this? I thought the new Ipod should be working with both PC and MAC (Just like Archos), what is going on here? Please help !!!

That's because the iPod you have is formatted as HFS+, the Mac filesystem. And the PC can not read HFS+ so it want's te roformat it to NTFS or FAT.

My understanding (I have a 15gb Ipod) that you either use the Ipod with Windows or Mac, but not both.

If you format it for use on the PC then it will work on both the mac and the PC. Its just that Windows cannot read HFS+, but Macs can reat a Win formatted driv ok, so if you want to use it on both format it for the PC.

So I wonder about this.
http://www.apple.com/ipod/autosync.html
I hope that is not the case. That will mean that I can use my ipod either on Mac or PC only, instead of both like my old big giant ugly design Archos. I guess I just need to return the following item then
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nMore=M9126G/A
The fire wire that come with it is not standard for Laptop PC. I so hope it will work on both when I bought this 30G Ipod.
So have anyone got the connector and try it before ?
George.

Thanks RevEvs, That kind of make sense now. My understanding is that the New Ipod can do both but not in the old one.

With the old model iPods, there were 2 separate models available for each size: Windows and Mac. Once you bought them, it wasn't easy (nor supported by Apple) to convert to the other system. With the new iPods, there is only one model to buy. When you plug it in the first time, it formats for the system it's plugged into. I believe that if you format it for PC, it will still be read by the Mac, but Macs write to the Windows file systems much slower. I think that you should just sync with your Mac at home and use the AC adapter to charge it at work, rather than connecting it to your Windows computer.

The iPod is designed to be synched with one computer at any given time. While it is correct that your Mac will read a Windows file system,
you will not be able to use it with your iBook and XP box simultaneously without the help of third party software. Even then you won't be able to synch to both your computers like you can in iTunes.
Why do you want to synch it to your XP box anyway? You've got all your music with you on your iPod as it is, no?

Well I have PC at work and Mac at home. I wish I can burn cd at work then I can transfer song to my Ipod. Or using Ipod as my file keeper for photo and such when I am at work. I am not trying to connect both of them in the same time, I just try to be able to connect my Ipod at work that is PC and go home put it in my dock that is connected to Mac.
Is that making sense ?
George.
