Much to my dismay my Newt is refusing to start up. It's been going strong for the longest time but today when I tried powering it on it doesn't respond. I tried plugging it into the wall to no avail. I imagine the battery is dead but seems as if its refusing to charge at all. I tried hitting the reset button on the back and it didn't help. I've got a MessagePad 2000 with a NiMH battery pack. Can anybody help this poor Newt users?

Hold the reset button for a minute or so with it plugged in without the battery. I dropped my Newt in the toilet once and it fizzled and crackled. a year later I was fooling around with it and held the reset button for a while. Much 2 my suprize it came back 2 life - teh data was all still there!

good luck.

You're a genius! It worked! I held the reset button down for a minute as you suggested without the battery plugged in. After a minute I got a black screen with a Newton logo and a startup chime. My battery is now charging the system appears to be working normally. Thanks a million! My Newt is my portable keep track of everythinger.

I dug mine out of a drawer after not using it for a year and it started right up, with everything intact! You really can't kill a newton, can you?

Well, Steve Jobs excepted, of course...
