I've been looking for something like the EyeTV (www.elgato.com) for a while now. My iBook is already my stereo and DVD player, and I'd like to make it my TV/PVR in my bedroom, too. That would be really cool.
However, I like video games, and I hear the EyeTV isn't good for that because of the lag.
I've looked into something like the AverTV box coupled with, say, a 15" LCD, but that would run a few hundred $, and I would have to keep switching the signal between sources. I also might get an iMac within the next 6-9 months, and would like to just use that builtin screen.
Any other ideas/suggestions?

I have used many DV A/D convertors from formac, sony, and some other company which I can't remember right now... They all have lag.

Buy a TV instead, it will be bigger and possibly cheaper. I think that you can get a decent 20" TV for less than $200. Check your week-end newspaper.

I know that. I was hoping to use my computer as an all-in-one entertainment thingy, though. As I said, it's already my stereo and DVD player. I want to consolidate things.

yes, Televio works flawless even with video games consoles, but itīs a pci card, so laptops, iMac, eMac users are out of luck this time.

Well, I emailed Formac about the Studio TVR. They replied: "The Formac TVR uses a firewire IEEE 1394 interface that allows for transfer
speeds up to 400 Mbps vs standard USB 1.1 which is only 12 Mbps. This higher transfer rates allow for a cleaner signal and little to no lag for your monitor. Many customer use our product to play video games and you
should have no problems doing so."
Can anyone vouch for this from personal experience?
thanks!
