evening all,

i'm loving my new 15gig ipod however i'm having a major problem with the ipod (and itunes) displaying the incorrect time for tracks.

i've been ripping my cd's to 192kbps vbr mp3's on my pc using exact audio copy with lame compression, these play fine and display the correct track time in both winamp on the pc and quicktime 6.1 on my mac. however, when the track is played with either itunes or my ipod the incorrect time is displayed, ie a 7'24 track is displayed as 10'34.

on the ipod when the track reaches it's correct end, ie 7'24 it stops and correctly proceeds to the next track, even though it reports there is still 2'10 remaining. itunes however, seems to play the track for the full 10'34... not sure if it's slowing the track speed down or something else along those lines.

oh, and my 15gig gen 3 ipod came pre-loaded with v2.0.1.

anyone else experienced this problem or have any clues as to why it may be occuring?

any help most appreciated.

cheers,

I think this is an issue with the way the iPod handles VBR. I believe there was some mention of it on macintouch.com's iPod reports recently, along with a way to fix it. You might check that out.
