Hey guys,

I was thinking of getting a Sony Clié SJ33 or SJ22. But, I can fnd little info on Mac support. Does anyone know what level of Mac supported software these PDAs come with?

Specifically, I just want to be sure that I can do the usual syncing and transfer pictures and MP3s from my Mac to one of these.

Apple iSync works with the SJ20 and SJ30, I guess the 22 & 33 are just updates. Check here.

Also, The Missing Sync is supposed to be good but I haven't used it myself.

And apparently the newest version of palm desktop allows syncing with Clies without any extra software as well. The only thing is that Sony doesn't officially support the Mac.

You don't need The Missing Sync to synchronise the SJ30 - I've got one; works okay with Mac Palm Desktop and the Entourage conduit, also iSynch.

(Thought I'd save you some money.)

So, I guess the usual Address, Memo, etc... data is no problem. But, what about transferring pictures and MP3s?

I believe this is third party software on the Clie, so I would think you'd need a special conduit to transfer these, right?

BTW, sorry about the title misspelling. I just noticed it. Tried to change it, but apparently I can't. Oh, well.

The Missing Sync is actually a very useful piece of software even if you don't need it to sync anymore, since it will make your handheld show up as an MP3 player in iTunes and will allow you to export your photos from iPhoto to your memory stick. Another option is to get a memory stick reader for your mac and just drag them onto there.

In my case, I use Missing Sync to mount my memory stick as a disk on the desktop and just copy the files over that way. I use AcidImage for viewing my photos (the included viewer isn't really very good). I don't use it for MP3s, since i have an iPod, but you can also transfer MP3s this way, as long as you know what folder on the memory stick to put them in so that the Clie will be able to find them.

The most basic rule of thumb is that if a Clié has a built-in MP3 player, you'll need the Missing Sync because the USB port in MP3 models is kinda funny.

The SJ33 is not an update to the SJ30, per se, it's essentially a T665C in a plastic case rather than metal (and without the special IR sender for remote control).

Also, the iSync website correctly says that you can sync to a Clié -- what they don't say is that most of the Clié models still require the Missing Sync in order to do so.

As I think I mentioned, however, this doesn't appear to be the case any longer, since the release of Palm Desktop 4.1.
