I have an original 15" Apple Studio Display. I guess it's about 5-6 years old by now.

It's getting darker at the bottom. It's a gradual gradation but very noticeable now.

Is this how LCD's die?

It's my first and I've never had any experience with them conking before. No dead pixels or any other problems.

The backlight needs to be replaced. But the cost Apple charges is high enough to buy a brand new one.

Thanks for the response. You confirmed what a friend just told me. He said I could probably replace it it I had a spare laptop I could salvage for parts.

Sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth.
