Probably a long stretch, but has anyone come across a heart-rate monitor that can plug-in via USB or bluetooth to send data for analysis in OS X?

Like a said, a long stretch. If someone were to come up with a solution like this, it would generate a nice revenue stream.

Seen those. They're nice except they use an IrDA interface to PCs only. No macintosh software or compatibility.

Their devices appear bulky. Is the service required? I'd prefer a Mac OS X program rather than web access to their website just to access my heart rate data.

Good question.

I would love to have a watch that could transfer workout/running data to and from my Mac. There are some that come close, but nothing perfect yet.

Take a look at these (I've been doing some shopping around) in addition to the ones already suggested. They're pretty much all the same and usually only work with PCs (Virtual PC maybe?):

The Polar USA products do not work with a mac for sure. They state in their FAQs that no Mac software currently works with their interface (Infrared) nor even Virtual PC (apparently because it wouldn't be able to see the interface.

As for the others, I don't really see much mention of Mac compatibility, but I do see that they use DB-9 PC serial connections (geez, a little out of date, no?), so I'm skeptical.

I'm picturing some sweet-looking, aqua graphs showing my heart rate for a 50-mile cycling ride. If it were to include an altimeter, I could correlate climbs with increases in heart rate. Save it all, log it. Show average heart rate for a particular ride (or several rides on the same route), etc. This cannot be all that difficult. I guess no one's ready to invest.

Yeah! I found a piece of beta software that still needs some work (only supports one Polar heart rate monitor model), but looks promising:

Post stuff in their forum to show some interest!

Training log is great software, and the support has been excellent. Never waited more than a few hours for the replies.

I don't use the heart rate version, because my polar hrm doesn't support computer download. However, this company deserves your support and will no doubt figure out how to make it work eventually.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

Cheers,

J.

I don't see a reference to either Accurex ll or
XTrainer on the Polar site. Are these discontinued models?

Hi guys,
We're working hard on providing support for the USB interface. There's some major problems, however, including the fact that the Polar unit isn't USB1.1 compatible. This was confirmed by engineers at Apple. We're trying to work round this, but it may take a while.

We also intend to support the Polar devices which use the audio interface.

Regards

Stuart

This sounds great! I'll be checking your web site from time to time for updates.

If you ever need a beta tester, I'd be happy to help out!
