I have my Samsung printer on my XP box set up to be shared via Unix.
I can print fine to it locally (ie. physically connected to my Mac), but I can't properly set it up on the Mac through my XP box's Unix share.
ie. When I try to add it in Print Center thru IP printing, it's not listed in the Printer Model list for printers on the network. If I pick Generic it prints garbage through the network share, and if I pick Other it asks me for a location on disk for the driver. In other words, it seems OS X sees the share fine, but for some reason won't let me associate the Samsung driver with that share.
If I view the info on the Samsung ML-4600 printer locally, there is a greyed out "PCL For jaguar 1.0" but no model names listed.
Where would the printer driver file be located?
I've tried a couple of other drivers (HP) randomly but not surprisingly it just prints junk.

Did you remember to type an IP address for the printer? If not, that may be the problem.

yes. I can actually print to it with other (wrong) drivers, but of course I get garbage.
For some reason the Samsung driver isn't listed.

try opening a browser window and typing in http://127.0.0.1:631.. try setting up the printer there ^_^
I know this is unusual but perhaps you'll get more options.. and in the end it will show up in your print dialog box

Well, the printer is being shared on my XP box via their Unix drivers. It doesn't have a network port.
Could it just be a problem with the Samsung driver?

Thanks, but I don't have that option. I had a read a thread a while back that said it had been removed from X.2 but I can't find the thread anymore. Maybe I'm just imagining things.

Hey,
I have a Samsung printer as well and I needed to install the following in order to print to my Samsung printer being shared via XP.
Go to: linuxprinting.org and install both ghostscript as well as the Samsung GDI. Once I installed both of these then I had new printers available to me in the drop down menu when adding a printer. Samsung will now be listed.

I'm now using the HP LaserJet 5L (or was that 6?) driver in Panther and it works fine, even for Windows printing over the network.
Is there any benefit to using the Samsung setup? I have multipage printing on a single page, etc. the way I'm doing it now. And there's no lag either.

So I installed the Ghostscript & Samsung GDI drivers and I just get garbled output. My ML-4600 is not specifically supported however - I tried the ML-4500 and ML-1210 drivers.
The HP LaserJet 6 Gimp-print drivers continue to work, but colour gradients are poor quality. ie. Text works fine but pictures have poor quality.
I tried installing the new 4.3.18 Gimp-Print drivers, but it's the same.

Samsung updated their drivers to support X.3, as of March 22. They work great with X.3.3 with my TiBook.
However, I still don't get that option for Windows printing. The laptop must be physically connected to the printer via USB or it just won't work. The "Foomatic + GDI" drivers do not work either.
