I just got a reconditioned Epson 2200 from B&H Photo, but I can't seem to get it to work. It prints up to an inch of the image, then I get a "General Error Message" and the print job aborts. I've tried printing from a variety of applications, I've tried adjusting memory settings on my machine, I've tried printing with smaller file sizes (thinking it might be a memory issue).
I'm using an older iMac - it's a 400 MHz G3, but I've got 576 MB of RAM, OS 9.1. I'm primarily trying to print out of Photoshop 7.0 but I've tried other apps and older versions of PS as well. I'm using Espon's premium glossy photo paper. I have an older Epson 740 that has worked great for me, so I'm a little baffled why the new printer is not working.
Epson tech support is zero help. Does anyone have any advice, or did I just get a lemon?
Andrew

Epson 2200 and Mac drivers are a known issue. Search www.dpreview.com for answers.

Thanks. I had heard of some issues the 2200 had with OS X, but I was under the impression that there weren't any problems with 9.x. I'll look around on dpreview - thanks.

The only "known issue" with the 2200 drivers is that Epson did not build in full feature compatibility for Macs. But this hardly represents a bug and does not prevent the printer from making awesome prints.
Well, this is just silly. I guess you're suggesting he replace his 2200 with an i950? Pphffff. Ridiculous. The 2200/7600/9600 are the best photo printers on the market, bar none. Not to mention the fact that the i950 only prints to letter size.
sandandrew,
You've probably got a bad unit. Get it replaced. Or try the other interface: if you've got it connected through USB, try FireWire, or vise versa. If both interfaces behave the same, then definitely send it back.

If that was true then why is her here complaining?
Replace it with a CANON, if the i950 isn't good enough they do have other models that print on larger paper.

Thanks. Yeah, I've had great luck with the old epson (740) I've had, and have mac friends who have (and love) the 2200. The ONLY reason I'm upgrading is because of the 2200. Anything else is not an option.
And I did try both firewire and USB - no luck. I think this baby is headed back where it came from.
Thanks for the advice though...

Because, as I said before, it is probably a defective unit. Are you suggesting that Canon has a 100% perfect production line? Again, just silly.
No desktop printer (and most other types as well) can touch the 2200/7600/9600 for photo printing.

Hell no Canon is not perfect but even when Epsons work perfectly they are full of problems and downsides. Read my other thread and you will know what I mean.

I'm well aware of Epson's shortcomings, but most of that is irrelevant to this thread, as we are discussing the 2200. This printer is excellent by any manufacturers' standards and represents, arguably, the best money can buy for photo printing. The 2200 is not the 700/740/c80's "big brother" at all.
