Okay, I have a G4 350mhz and bought a pioneer A05 drive about a month ago.. I got some kernal panics so I stuck it in my pc and upgraded the firmware to 1.3, however then it wouldn't burn properly, now i have upgraded it to 1.33, and the drive won't eject discs unless i restart the computer...

I've noticed there's a mac updater for version 1.30 on the pioneer website, is this a special update for macs ? And will it stuff up my drive if I downgrade version numbers from 1.33 to 1.30 ??

Dude, join the club. I've been in Pioneer A05 hell for months now and I can't find anything to fix the problem. I've got a thread on this, but I haven't heard of any true solution for this that works for everyone. This is just really flaky and now I'm beginning to think I'll just give up.

I installed the Pioneer 105 aftermarket in my FW800 Dual 1.25. My drive came from ESbuy
It had the latest firmware installed. Before installation I ran DiskWarrior and repaired permissions. I installed the drive as "master"
and combo drive as slave. This is critical.
Powered up and ran DiskWarrior and repaired
permissions. Reinstalled SpindownFix. repaired permissions. I primarily use Toast Titanium and have no problems. For Spindown
Fix go here:http://www.macmaps.com/software.html
I hope this helps.

Okay, I have been reading on the apple forums that having substandard RAM can lead to kernel panics... I took out 2 RAM simms (including the one that shipped with my computer) leaving one 256mb one...and so far no kernel panics all day... so fingers crossed.

The panic should have been evident before the P105 install. Bad RAM is definitly a problem.
Effects are very subtle and hard to confirm. The Hardware Test included with new Macs can help in this regard. So many problems attributed to software and OS are in fact RAM related. One has a tendency to think a substandard RAM module would have obvious and immediate effects ( true ) but seemingly
random kernel panics are in fact due to bad RAM
