I just recently purchased a powerbook g4 and i love it! However, its going to be my eveyrday computer, and I do want to buy an external monitor. I would prefer something not too expensive, and light. It can be a CRT if it is not too heavy...any suggestions?

What size screen are you looking for? Apple makes a nice 15" LCD that can be had for pretty cheap these days. Samsung and NEC make nice 17" displays - I've got the Samsung 172T and love it. You can grab cheap 15" LCDs for anywhere between $200-300. The 17" LCDs can be had for $300-500. LCDs are great, thin, light solutions if you're tight on space.
if you find some time, do a search in these forums under LCD monitors or a specific name brand and you're sure to get lots of great reader opinions and reviews.
Also, make sure your PB 12" has the right connections for the monitors you're interested in. VGA, ADC, DVI, etc.
Good luck!

Thanks! I am looking for a 17inch monitor I think. However price is the big issue here, as i am a student. Maybe i could find something second hand--i would like to spend nothing more than 150--so i might have to settle for a 15 inch screen--

My only gripe with a 15 inch screen is that you don't really gain anything, other than larger type. Most 15's have the same resolution as that 12" PB, 1024 x 768. I'd go for a 17 at least, then you actually gain something from an external monitor, more screen real estate.

Don't mind second hand monitors. Check out MacofAllTrades.com. I was there last month and they had monitors overstocked down the halls.
They have 17inch monitors for around $150

Yes. Monitor spanning should work with any attached monitor.
