Network Sharing Of Hd betwenn PC and Mac?

Hey It's really easy to share HD's and other storage devices between different windows Machines, But would it be possible to share an external FW HD that is plugged directly into my windows machine with my Mac on the network?

--consider that the HD is formatted using a NTFS filesystem.

Also, im wondering if would work better then to have the HD plugged directly into the Mac and then let the PC do the network reading - if this might be more compatible.

THanks whoever can Help me with this one, in all your infinite wisdom

You can share the entire drive from your Windows machine via Samba, and mount that Samba volume on your Mac; or, you could share the drive from your Mac by updating the /etc/smb.cnf file (or by using the Samba Sharing Pakage) and mounting the Samba share point on your Windows box. Either approach will work (I run a mixed network at home without incident).
