Well the PS2 has a 4-pin FireWire slot, and the iPod comes with a 6-pin to 4-pin FireWire adapter, so would it be possible to use the iPod for game saves?

It is probably possible, but someone would have to write software to allow the PS2 to know what an iPod is. For example, the PS2 would have to be able to read/write HFS+ (or FAT32/NTFS for windoze iPods).

If you want to save your game you will have to write the save-game data to it. No?

If you want to return to your saved game you will have to read the saved game data. No?

Here's a question...How do I select to save it to something that's connected to the firewire port?

I believe the PS2 only uses the FireWire port for multi=player games (Gran Turismo 3, for example could use it)

I'm not sure that it uses it for any type of storage.

I heard it was for storage...I mean how else would you get those game saves that you download from gameshark.com onto your PS2?

Well, looking around, I found out you use X-Port now known as SharkPort once it was bought by GameShark, It used USB, and is no longer available.

The Support site says they have not "given up on it" and are working to make a "new and improved" sharkport.

Firewire is only used for connecting PS2s together. I remember that they hoped it could be used for cameras too, but that never came to be.

New PS2's don't have the firewire port (or, as Sony labels it "iLink") anymore. You can not save data/hookup a HD to the port. Basically it was there for all these cool gadgets that never saw the light of day. Another example is the network adaptor. It has a IDE hard drive connector on the inside. On a whim I hooked up an old IDE drive I had and slapped it into the PS2. When the PS2 powered up, I heard the drive spin up as well, but with no drivers, it just sat there whirring away. This is why I'm so supprised about the long delayed PS2 hard drive add on... Why doesn't Sony just write drivers and just let users buy thier own drive? Just make the min. supported drive size like 20GB or something.

Okay so there is a HD type thing for the PS2. Apple has a FireWire to USB adapter cable, if I were to use that, could I use that ont he PS2, or is that read/write thing still going to affect it?

The PS2 has no idea what an iPod is until someone writes software for it. The HD that Sony sells fits into the proprietary connector at the back. If regular HDs could be attached via the Firewire/USB port no one would buy Sony's HD.

What format does the PS2 use for the memory cards? Who the hell knows!? I am sure it is not the HFS+ or NTFS formats used for the iPod.

Give it up. It is not going to work.
