Can I place the original superdrives that shipped with the dual audio systems in a PC running XP home? Are there any drivers or anything that I will have to download? Thanks for the help.

My system specs:

2 furry caches
17" diaganol quad pumped weener
198 lb ham
44x36x57 CWR
overpriced, underperforming, but sleek nonetheless.

I also have a G4.

Yeah you probably can. Would pay you to find out (via System Profiler) what the make and model of the drive is and then see if you can find appropriate drivers (if necessary) for XP.

The Pioneer DVR-103, and all other full size Apple Superdrives, are standard ATAPI drives and should work with XP's native ATAPI driver. Use Nero or Easy CD Creator and you should be good to go.

I've read that sometimes this doesn't work with the usual software, presumably because of the custom Apple firmware in these drives. Can't hurt to try though. Tell us what happens.

I'm sure there's a way to flash the drive with the original Pioneer firmware.

http://pioneerdvd.firmware-flash.com/#PIONEER_DVR_IDE

and after a quick search, there it is... CHECK TO SEE WHICH MODEL YOUR DRIVE IS (it's probably a Pioneer DVR-103). Then flash the drive with the corresponding firmware, according to the instructions, and it should work like a charm. Just make sure you know the model of the drive and download the correct firmware patch! Read ALL of the info on the above page, it has some excellent information.

Cheers.

Thanks for the input, I was able to swap it with no problems whatsoever. The original firmware is just fine and as you read this I am burning DVD's. Peace.
