I would try to compare in person if possible. When it comes to LCD's your eyes are the best judge and the spec sheets are not always the best to go by. I bought the 20" after going to the Apple store to buy the 23" when the prices dropped to $1999 and ended up getting the 20". After spending about 20 minutes trying to calibrate each display (almost none needed on the 20") I decided I really liked the 20" much better as far as color, brightness and the excellent whites it has.
I saved some money going with the 20" and I don't feel that the 23" looked all that much bigger, not that the 23" isn't a great display if you want that nice big rez. I know this may not help in your decision between the Formac and the Apple CD but I wouldn't go by the spec sheet alone.
As far as Video goes I can't see myself going back to a non-wide-screen display for FCP again. I love the way FCP spreads across the wider aspect screen and video response is excellent as far as I can tell zero ghosting.
