The 5650 is newer updated version and seems to be better built. On top of that it is also faster. 21 black and 15 color versus 18 black and 11 color.

i have the 5550. got it for free from J&R with my powerbook. very nice printer for text, acceptable photos. haven't had a problem with it. never used the 5650, though, so i can't compare it with that.
