Just popped my new 15 gigger into its cradle and I got the screen below. The little disc icon was spinning but what looks like a progress bar was not moving. Took a hard reset to get it to stop. The only change I had made between the last time I docked it and this time is that I plugged the cradle into the back of my FW HD as part of a daisy chain as opposed to how I normally have it plugged directly into the back of the mac. Anybody know what happened? Should I be concerned???

OK. Could've done my research first. A quick tour of Apple Support told me it was a "Disk Scan Icon" which is normal. Yet mine wasn't progressing. Also, did I screw things up by reseting it before it was done? It'd be nice if Apple would mention these little features in the manual.

I, too, have seen this icon before. A check of the manual did not help me at the time, of course.

Has anyone ever actually seen the progress bar move and finish? (I didn't let mine finish.)

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

If you wait long enough, (and it can take a LONG time, overnight in some cases) it will finish and boot normally.

I had the same screen. Did a reset and everything went back to normal. No issues so far. I was toying with just running a fsck the next time it was plugged in.
