the iPod note reader has to be the most ridiculous, highly useful, and powerful stealth feature in the new 3G iPods... it wasn't even mentioned during Steve's keynote in May.

At first glance, you'd think... yea, so i can view text documents. whoopdedoo...

But what they don't tell you is that the note reader can interpret simple HTML... including links and such to other note files, and even playlists and songs.

You can even set the iPod to not go into the Now Playing screen by default after selecting a song.

Suddenly the iPod comes into a new light... Apple even built in a Museum Mode for use on (presumably) audio tours of museums instead of walkmans used in some places... museum mode locks out the user from exiting the not reader... Also, the iPod, with its hypertext capability, can provide information along with the audio.

I can think of some amazing applications for this... the iPod is really evolving into something really amazing.

Damn! That's damn cool! It is pretty amazing that this stuff hasn't been mentioned by Apple. Maybe they are waiting to evolve it a little more and include some more features before letting it be known? This really needs to be publicized. (or has it?)

There's actually an app out called iLyric which will get lyrics for songs in your iTunes library and transfer them to your iPod. The only problem is the iPod only hold 1000 notes maximum but it's still pretty useful! Saved me from insanity several times when i couldn't remember lyrics.
