Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share some insight on how to get to the internet through a bluetooth phone. My setup is a PBG4 with a SE T610 using T-Mobile. First of all you need to make sure you have a data connection to the GPRS network. You can tell if you have one by looking for an APN of "internet2.voicestream.com". If you don't have one, create a new data connection (data comm.) and put that as the APN. Make sure you know the “CID #” for the acct. this is how you will know what phone script to use. If its CID2 then use a script with the number 2 at the end. You don't need to worry about usernames or passwords. Next, go here www.taniwha.org.uk, they have all the info you need to get going. They have instructions in how to setup the network preferences, and phone scripts for every phone out there. To summarize, on the PPP tab in network preferences, put the APN in the phone number field. On the modem tab, make sure that the PPP echo box is unchecked along with the error correction and wait for dial tone boxes. Select the phone script that you want to use from the pull down menu. Oh one more thing, make sure you are using the correct port. There is a pull down menu that shows “Airport, Built in Ethernet, internal modem, USB Bluetooth modem adapter, etc…” for me it was the USB bluetooth port. Hit “Apply now” and then open internet connect and connect to your phone. Sorry for some lack in detail. I’m at work on my windows machine and don’t have access to my PBG4. If you have any questions post them and I’ll try my hardest to answer them.

not to burst your bubble, but i think people have been getting online via their bluetooth phones since 10.2.6 came out (maybe earlier). I'm sure some people will find this information helpful, though.

Its ok, my bubble isn't burst, just a hole in the side ;-) I know people have gotten online with the bluetooth setup, but I continued to see others who were having trouble, so like you said, hopefully this will help some of them.

Bluetooth definitely rules. I haven't tried using it for Internet yet, but I have configured my T610 to dowload and send e-mails from my normal Pop account. It is so cool to be out and about and get my mail without even switching on my iBook!
Only thing bugging me is no all day event support on T610's calendar, which makes iSync not as useful as I'd like it to be. But hey....

Ok now my bubble is bursted. When I get online, to a website, Safari will download the webpage instead of loading it. I've only had two pages load up and those were banking sites. With normal WiFi everything is ok, its only when i am using the phone as a modem.
Thanks!

Go to getmorespeed.tmobile.com and turn OFF the accelerator. What is happening is that TMobile uses a proxy server that compresses the HTML into a gzip stream (amongst other things.) Safari doesn't support that mime type, so it just downloads it into a file instead of displaying it. The reasons your banking sites worked is that they are SSL encrypted. The proxy server can't get in the middle of it and change the data to compress it.
Alternatively you could use a browser that supports it, like mozilla or Camino. Also, the Panther build of Safari DOES support it, so hopefully there will be a new version soon.
BTW, you can only get to the site I mentioned while you are connected via GPRS.

Thanks Geekwagon,
Just went though the same gyrations. Could get it to work with the accelerator turned off. With Mozilla it works fine, although the accelerator isnt that much faster. It does load pages completely while Safari without accelerator does not.

I can't get those modem scripts to work Everything works fine when i use the ericson infared script (even though it's a bluetooth T610), but when I use the CID1 script (which i should be using), it will pair to the phone but then not connect.

I don't use the modem scripts.
I just set the modem type to infrared (Nokia, in my case.)
Then set the phone number to *77#
No access points, no passwords, no accelerators.
Hit "Connect" and it works great, at around 25-40kbps.

The CID to use is the one set up for GPRS communication. My CID is 2 and CID 1 is the one set up for T-Zones which uses a WAP gateway. I think if you use the *99# set up it defaults to the first CID which is WAP and you will burn through your T-Zones MB very quickly. I hear that the $9.99 T-Zoones Pro is unlimited so this may work effectively and save you $10/mo.

Great and glad to hear it. Now if it only worked with the Tungsten T and DSL, even I would be happy. But, it appears at least according Palm that is not possible. Humm, too bad!!!!

That sounds great, but it is not working on my PBG4 With Nokia 3650. Says "modem error" when I use the "nokia infrared" script, and when I use some specific infrared nokia, like the Nokia IR 7110, it says "no carrier detected". The phone and computer are talking through Bluetooth, and i have GPRS enabled on the phone/system. Also, I do have Enable error correction AND wait for dial tone both UNchecked on the Bluetooth modem preferences.
What am I doing wrong?
