Is it possible to connect an iBook (500mhz) to a 20" Apple Cinema Display?

I am waiting on my G5 to arrive and I am trying to decide if I should buy the Display now or wait.

Thanks

VGA does not have the power required to drive an ADC display. That being said, you will need a setup like this...

Mini VGA -> VGA (Provided w/ your iBook)

VGA -> DVI

DVI -> ADC

You should be able to run it lie this.

However, I doubt that the 500 MHz model has the vid card required to to this. Do a search in the iBook forum for "Dual Monitor Hack" and you will find much more info. -M

to do this you can use this box, which will set you back nearly $300. It will allow you to connect to the monitor, but, as mark9939 said, i'm not sure the iBook video card can push the 1680x1050 resolution of the 20" Cinema Display. On second thought, i doubt it could. Definitely look into that before buying this box (or just sit tight till the G5s start shipping, at which point there may be new, updated displays anyway)

Guys, the monitor spanning hack will not work with a 500Mhz iBook. No point spending $300 on the Gefen VGA-to-ADC conversion box.

TiMac: Wait to buy a display until you get that G5, unless you want a non-Apple display. A 3rd party display with dual inputs, e.g. VGA and DVI, would let you share the display between the iBook and G5 later on.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.
