I just ordered a pocket pc, and I can get unlimited internet with the pocket pc for 20$ a month. I can connect the pocket pc to the laptop and enable the laptop to use the pocket pc’s internet connection as its own… has anyone done this, or herd of this?

thanks guys.

Is it PocketPC Phone Edition (ie, built into a phone?) Otherwise I don't know how you would get wireless internet access with a PPC..

If so, and if it is GSM/GPRS, and the phone is equipped with bluetooth, then yes. If it is CDMA/1xRTT like Sprint or Verizon then I have absolutely no idea. Probably though, I have seen people do it on PC laptops (although it required a USB cable.)

You'll need an SD Bluetooth card for your Pocket PC. Then you have to pair the two devices, and tell your PowerBook to use a dial-up Bluetooth modem and dial *99#.

pocket mac

or missing sync?

or is there another option?

i looked at both of the sites of these companies... and there is a 20$ difference in the software, is pocket mac worth the extra 20$?

and tell your PowerBook to use a dial-up Bluetooth modem and dial *99#.
sp that is all i need to do? plug the pocket pc into the laptop via the usb, then dell the powerbook to dial the pocket pc, and dial the *99# and thats it?

I dunno if that will work using USB, I've only used bluetooth. With Bluetooth, when you pair the phone you get a "Bluetooth Modem" that you can use. I'm sure there must be some way to do it with a cable too, but someone else will need to chime in here.

As for the software, I have never used Pocketmac but I have heard a lot of bad things about it. Can't say if that is true or not though. I can say that Missing Sync actually seems to work pretty well. I previously used their Clie version of Missing Sync and never had trouble with that, either.

You better check if Missing Sync PC supports the T Mobile yet. If it isn't specifically listed, it won't work:

I also would not assume you will be able to connect a PC based device and get any Mac recognition for connection without using Virtual PC. Unfortunately, the place to ask that question, Connectix Care (VPC) has been shut down by the new owners of VPC, none other than Microsoft. Good luck getting any information from them about anything.

DO NOT BUY POCKET MAC.

If you don't believe me, have a look at VersionTracker's reviews of the software. It's a total scam.

Missing Sync supports the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, which is the same as the Seimens SX56.

If Missing Sync doesn't support your device, e-mail their support team and ask them what they know about device support. They'll very nice there.
