Mag Innovision... are their LCDs as good as their CRTs?

With rebates, I can get an 18" Mag Innnovision LCD for the
same price as the Samsung 17" (172N) that is so popular here.
Thoughts?

Spent some time staring at Samsung, Viewsonic, Mag, NEC, Sony, and Kogi displays at CompUSA and Best Buy today... judging at stores is tough...
The Samsung had the nicest frame construction... nice thin frame... though always in black (silver would look better with my PowerBook, I'd think).
But the Samsung had the worst picture... truly flat and lifeless colors. An the text not too crisp. The Viewsonic were slightly better. Mag and NEC somewhat better. And the Kogi, of all things, dramatically better. Like night and day. Text on the Kogi was crisp and clean; and the colors were dramatic! I tried adjusting the Samsung's settings, and I did improve it, but not enough to change its ranking.
However, I then looked at some of the 15" monitors... the Kogi's colors were as lifeless as the 17" Samsung. Relative rankings different. So then I looked at the 19"... the Samsung 19 had a stellar picture... comparable to the 17" and 19" Kogi's. [sigh]
Is the picture quality highly dependent upon individual unit?
Is getting the best picture out of each very difficult, require an artist's touch on the controls?
Are the signals coming off store multiplexors highly variable?
Anyway, in addition to the Mag, I'd be interested in people's opinions of the Kogi monitors. I have no familiarity with Kogi.

AFAIK, the 172N is analog input only, no DVI. That may affect your decision. I've generally been pretty impressed by the Samsungs (installed a bunch for a client last year) but have not seen much about Kogi. Macworld recently reviewed some of the 20+ inch models:

Personally, I use a Viewsonic VX900, and have been very happy with it, inspite of lukewarm reviews.

I've had a Planar 191M 19" LCD since Jan 2nd, and its great! Bright, crisp, pretty fast pixel response. Best $700 I've ever spent, but you can find them for less now.
If I could afford it, I'd get more of them!
