Does anyone know if the new iPod will work with a USB 1 (not 2) PC using the USB 2 adapter?

Thanks.

USB 2 interfaces are supposed to backwards compatible. So...maybe.

Thanks for that link. It says that ME requires FireWire, but what about 98, 2k, or XP? Can all 3 OSes work with both FireWire and USB?

Win98 should be the same as ME. 2000 should be better. I can't think of a reason why that config shouldn't work, but it will be painfully slow!

Don't bother with it, invest your money into a FireWire card.

Its not for me. Someone in my office is interested in an iPod but I don't want her to buy it if it isn't going to work.

Wait a few days I will be getting my Ipod (3 generation) and plan
to use on a pc box at work via USB 1 on Win 98.

I will use it to transfer files at work (word docs) and at home for my
Itunes and to retrieve the files and work on them.

I don't know if this will work but I'll try.

Possible problems:

- USB 2 not backwards compatible with USB 1
- Win 98 wont see the drive (Mac format)
- Mac wont see the files saved to the ipod

Anybody try this?

unfortunately, the new iPods just don't work at all with Windows 98. They require ME/2k/XP. my dad found this out the hard way when he bought a 15 gig and put in the install CD only to get an "Unsupported Operating System" message since he was using win98...
