I recently sold my display of close to three years to a friend of mine. I thought everything was ok with it, but he said it was on its way out.

So I'll be refunding the $80 he paid to me for it. Just wondering, how much would it cost to repair a display like this.

As I don't want to electrocute myself, I would never open up the unit myself for repair. My question boils down to this? Is it worth getting the display repaired (casing is in pristine shape, as well as the glass), or should I just use it till it stops working / put it outside on the curb for the garbagemen to pick up (neighbors to take...)

Any advice here is helpful.

If the phosphors have burned out, that's it. The end.

If it's just the electronics that are slightly out of whack, you might be able to open it up and tweak with the master brightness control.

A TV repair shop might be able to do that for you -- most computer repair shops don't know how to fix monitors.

Just keep in mind how much a new 19" CRT costs.
