I am looking at buying a new iPod. I am trying to decide between the 15 gig and the 30 gig. Does the iPod make a good external hard drive. Can you store pictures, movies, and documents on it to transfer to another computer?

Totally...it's a great FireWire harddrive as well as music player; if you're in need of a music player AND a FireWire hard drive, it's worth your money to go ahead and get the 30GB iPod so you can have both functions within a single device.

Yes and no... people have been known to fry their iPods because of constant use as a hard drive. It seems that under constant heavy use, the hard drive can overheat (since the iPod has no vents, since it was designed to only read a file every couple of minutes, and shut down in between).

If your primary use is as a hard drive, I'd say to get an external FW HD.
