Hi all.

Does anyone know if there's a bluetooth phone that will work with Sprint?

Cheers

The Treo 600 will be out in about two months, and next month Sprint PCS should have the Sony Ericsson T608.

Thanks! I just called Sprint earlier to ask about it, and I swear, you'd have thought I had asked whether or not they had any phones made out of swiss cheese.

Me: "Am I right that you guys don't currently offer a phone with bluetooth?"
Him: "Not at the moment."
Me: "Do you have any idea whether or not you will be offering one in the future? I need to change my number, and you'll lock me into another 2-year contract when I do. But if you're not going to offer a BT phone, I'll just buy out my contract."
Him: "Well, I don't know of any plans, but we are supposed to pick up motorola around Xmas. What kinds of features are you looking for in a phone?"
Me: "Bluetooth. I don't want to have to hand-enter all my contacts."
Him: "So, um, what kind of features are you looking for?"
Me: "Bluetooth."

Anyway. Good to hear about the T608. Do you have any official info on that?

Cheers

I've heard that Sprint would have Bluetooth phones but knowing them you may want to wait until they actually announce it and you see it in the store. Sprint has a way of disabling features and they aren't the most reliable in terms of Mac support.

Does the Treo 600 have BT built in, or would it require an expansion card? If it's not built in, I don't think it will work. If I remember correctly, the Treo runs palmOS 5.x, and as of yet, BT SD cards aren't supported under 5.x yet.

Sony Ericsson went through a round of layoffs, and completely cut out the CDMA division in June. There will be no T608 coming out.

Check out www.howardforums.com for more information about this.

Many Sprint PCS employee's from SprintUsers said they have a memo that now has pricing codes for the T608 and will be released in September.

Unfortunately, I dont think the T608 is going to make a general release. Latest rumor is that SPCS will be sending the units they have been able to get their hands on off to be bundled with new cars that have BT built in. The rest of us mere mortals will just have to wait for a different BT phone. As for the Treo 600 it's SD I/O capable so an adapter can be bought. While there may not be many OS 5 compatible cards, I bet by years end there will be some available, which will probably coincide with the mass release of the phone. I love SPCS coverage and reliability in my area, but their fascination with fluff features in their phones like cameras, and ringers, and game pads is a bit on the annoying side. To me these are truly secondary, if not tertiary, features.
