As my 5GB iPod is starting to go funky in the battery department, and I'm going t be sending it to apple, I am curious to know, if I might get one of the new ones, or does apple keep a supply of older ones for replacements?

They'll probably just replace the battery or send you a refurbished 5GB iPod.

A friend of mine has the 5 Gig iPod, and had a battery problem as well. It was about 2 months ago or so, and he sent it to Apple, got another 5 Gig back in about 1 week (after they determined it was indeed a bad battery). I'm pretty sure they did it for free, but don't quote me on that.
