So i found a cute little laserwriter select in the alley. As far as I can tell it works. It tells the Chooser, in mac os 9, that it doesn't have paper which is true. So the next logical step in testing it is to put some paper in and try to print something out.

But I can't open the tray. I even got out a screwdriver and removed all the screws in the base, but it doesn't help - the base didn't even fall off. Maybe there's some sort of safety lock on it? I don't know. Anybody know what's going on?

Well, I don't know if this will help you, but I can tell you that the paper cassette on my Select 610 damn near requires a visit from Hulk Hogan in order to be removed. It really does require much more effort than would be considered necessary. Has led to some anxious moments ("I just want to put in more paper, not destroy the printer").

pull the printer slightly forward and grab the handle with your middle fingers while lifting the print upwards slightly and applying pressure with your thumbs on both side. Just pop the drawer a little.
