I have a 400mhz G4 and need help setting up an Apple 20" Cinema Display http://www.apple.com/displays/acd20/. The G4 has a 16mb Rage 128 video card. Is there an adapter I can get, possibly DVI to ADC, or do I need to get a new video card?

I don't believe that a Rage video card can support the 20".....

He's right. Here are the requirements for the 20" ACD
System requirements
The Apple Cinema Display requires Mac OS X v10.2 or later, and one of the following systems:
— Power Mac G4 with an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Titanium graphics card or ATI Radeon 7500, 9000 Pro, or 9700 Pro graphics card
— PowerBook G4 with a DVI port and an Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
A second display can be used with a Power Mac G4 via the DVI port on the NVIDIA GeForce4 MX, GeForce4 Titanium, ATI Radeon 7500, Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card and the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter.

Does anyone know if this is because the Rage 128 card lacks an ADC connector? Could an adaptor help?

I believe it's because the 16mb of Vram cant do the native resolution of the display...or maybe it's just because apple thinks you need a better video card.

So, to sum up, you need both a new video card and a DVI -> ADC adapter:
New video card, because of what cSurfr quoted;
ADC -> DVI adapter because your 400 MHz G4 (Sawtooth was the only model at that speed, if memory serves) does not have the connectors on the motherboard to supply the power for ADC (even on a card with an ADC connector).
You can get a GeForce 4MX from Other World Computing for around $70 -- good deal, nice card (I use one) -- and the adapter will set you back $100.

I have a Sawtooth G4 and have been looking into getting a 20" Cinema Display. I have upgraded my video card with a ATI Radeon 8500. However, that list Apple has of compatible cards doesn't list the 8500. Does any one know if I could use a Cinema Display with my Sawtooth and 8500 card?

I just got a 350mhz G4 with an ATI 7000 (32MB) video Card. I wonder if it would work with a 20" display? What actually is the Sawtooth model? The 350mhz model I just acquired looks just like my Dual 533 Digital Audio G4 tower.
