Could it look this way?

What I'm trying to express with this picture:
I hope the bluetooth mouse will have a lil outlet for a charger (USB or Firewire cable or A/C adapter)!

I would prefer a mousepad which charges the mouse through induction.
I've seen this in a recent PopularScience magazine.

that drawing is just... no comment

looks like one of those kid's mice you get a the Disney Store or something that's shaped like Mickey Mouse.

motti, that's a cool idea, but then you'd have to carry a mouse pad around with you to charge the mouse, which also defeats the idea that optical mice don't need a mouse pad. Perhaps Apple could use removable batteries that are shaped like USB pen drives, with a USB plug on them so you can plug them into an available USB port without disrupting the surrounding ones, and it'll charge itself, and then you can plug it into the bottom of your mouse when it's charged. (this way you could have two batteries, and one is always charged). hey, maybe they could stick 64mb of flash memory on the battery while they're at it

Thx, please don't the drawing too serious. I was lazy, can't handle my tablet and wanted to point out how a recharge technique could look like.

The induction indeed sounds cool except that it takes too much spaces. I would buy a wireless Apple mouse if it had a thin cable which you can plug in to the front of the mouse (the position of the current mouse's cable) and plug it into USB. Then you could use the mouse with or without wire depending on the battery status.

PS: I hope Apple has a good solution for this

I saw somewhere people discussing perpetual motion charging (as some watches do) where your mouse movements could charge the device - don't know if its really feasible given the amount of power needed for BT transmission, but it would be really cool.

I am sure apple will have a slick solution, though of all the things I've heard - a usb port in the from that can be plugged in (and used as wired while it charges) would be nice. I hope they don't simply suggest 'rechargeable AA's' - that would be painful. An integrated battery (like the ipod/palm) would be more to my liking...we'll see-

I have advanced my mock-up slighty, with a vertical scrollwheel:

I think there should be 2 wheels, one on either side, and move them closer to where the ears would be.

Yeah I saw those induction pads on TechTV, looks pretty neat. The guy put his cell phone and a mp3 player on one of those pads and sure enough they were both charging- VERY convenient.

wouldn't magnetic induction wipe any hard drive within a couple centimeters of it?

How do you regulate voltage and current to multiple devices?

Anyone remember the Logitech Kidz Mouse from 1991 or so? It was a small mouse, shaped like the sketch above... the buttons were styled like ears, and the cable was attached at the back end of the mouse, like a tail.

Alas, not even Google could find a picture ofone of those .
