I know there are a number of threads about this Televio card, but so far they seem to be focused on speculation, and now that I have mine installed, I'd like to focus on usage.

I have some questions and I hope someone has already figured some of them out, because I know a some of you folks here have already had the card installed for a while. If anyone has questions for me, I will do my best to answer them too.

1. Is there any way to change the channel without the Televio software? The card has a tuner. The software sucks. It's slow, it's not scriptable, and it's not particularly stable. I'm pleased that I can capture from the superior BTV, but as long as I've come this far it would be bitchin if I could also tune the card from a scriptable program.

2. Is there a way to set the volume buttons on the remote to adjust the OS system volume?

3. What's the deal with the ass slow channel preview? Is there a way to speed this thing up? It would be a cool feature if only....

4. Is there a real forum devoted to this device? google didn't turn up anything with more info than was already posted here at MacNN

and to answer the one question I've seen here that was unanswered, no, the card does not work in iMovie.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me nail down these issues

well I found an adequate solution to my first problem. With GUI scripting I wrote an applescript to change the channel with the televio software.

Code:
tell application "Televio" activate end tell delay 15 tell application "System Events" tell process "Televio" keystroke "2" end tell end tell ignoring application responses tell application "Televio" to quit end ignoring
to get it to work, though, I had to find "System Events" (in CoreServices) and double-click it

A couple of new questions:

1. If I change the channel too fast the sound goes away and the only way to get it back seems to be restarting the computer. Anyone know of a better way, or even any more details about this problem?

2. My remote seems to have stopped working (after only a few weeks!). We're not supposed to put that plastic guard for the battery back in when we're not using it are we? Has anyone else's remote stopped working?

version 1.7 of the software comes with a command line tool to change the channel on the tuner. In case anyone has problems with it, I found that it has no effect unless Televio, BTV or another recording/viewing app is currently open. Also, contrary to the man page, the -t flag for tuning the TV tuner takes its argument in MHz, not KHz. Tuning is just as slow with this tool as with the gui tool.

In other news, my remote began working again after I shaved off some of the plastic around the plug on the IR receiver. As pointed out by the comments on versiontracker, the remote's receiver's jack is too close to the edge of the card and it makes it impossible to fully insert the receiver's jack until you shave off some of othe plastic surrounding the jack.

So I ordered a Televio card (direct from the company) and they charged my credit card for it. I never got anything and the company would not give me any further information. They told me they shipped a "second" card, but it never arrived. This company took my payment in July and I still haven't gotten a product from them. They now refuse to return my e-mails. Looks like I got taken for a ride.
Televio - huge ripoff

Edit: About a month after I posted about my story in various places on the Internet, I was contacted again. They decided to refund my money, asking me to remove the bad reviews.

which e-tailer exactly? Call your credit card.

I ordered it from here. It was listed as "in-stock" when I put my order, but it showed up as "backorder". I called them right away since I was moving at that time... they shipped the TV card right away with next day shipping.

I checked the shipping label and receipt.. it appeared that the item was shipped from Dr. Botts.

Hey - that actually looks pretty damned good compared to my Televio. Mine has plenty of wavy white lines and other video interference. I wonder what the difference is? Are you using the IR remote control and receiver antenna? What's the rest of your Mac setup? thanx.......joe
