Atleast that's what this implies:

MacBiddoulle Finding

Please replace? If they were rechargeable batteries I think the error message would atleast say "Please dock..." or "Please plug in..." or "Please recharge..." but "Please replace..." suggests that that may be the only option....

Maybe Apple is purposely releasing a horrible version of an Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, just so they can get revenue from everyone that wants something wireless, and then revamp it and sell it to those same people and then others who didn't purchase the first time....ala the puck mouse (first Apple USB Mouse) and the Pro Mouse...

personally, i wouldn't want a rechargeable mouse. i mean, what if i'm using it, and it says "please recharge", and i have to put it in a recharging dock. what the hell do i do now? twiddle my thumbs while i wait for my mouse to charge up? if the thing just ran on AA's, i could just pop in a couple new ones. or, like Ganesha was implying, i could buy rechargeable batteries, and put in a fresh set of charged ones, and charge the dead ones.

and you think apple would release crap just to get your money? i mean, if apple released these new devices today, how many people would just go "holy crap! my current keyboard and mouse setup is incredibly outdated. i must ditch them and get these new ones." and as for the hockey puck, when did that come out, like '98? they upgraded it with a dimple on the button in '99, and then introduced the pro mouse in 2000. yeah, i bet they made a lot of money from those saps who bought those hockey pucks, and then made more money on those same people who just HAD to buy the pro mouse, because the puck was crap to begin with.

anyway, i'd still like to see a wireless mouse and keyboard, rechargeable or not rechargeable.

Rechargeable batteries would be good, if the actual unit could be recharged without having to take out the batteries. I had a Kensington Studio Mouse Wireless and the batteries (that were rechargeable) has to be recharged about every other night with decent usage.

This just in: Apple acquires Durecell in a landmark merger!

There are a ton of Apple fanatics that would buy anything with an Apple logo on it, even if they didn't need it. And I don't honestly believe Apple would release crap, but I just hope they do it right, that's all. It would be nice if the mouse and keyboard each took 2 AA batteries a piece and they gave you 8 AA batteries in the packaging plus a recharger. That way, like you suggested, you would always have a fresh pair...

I have no problem, and would prefer, a AAA mouse. I have, and still use, a very old logitech pro mouse (from around 1996) that is cordless. The thing about it is I have used it almost every day for the first 5 years I had it and I now use it at least 10 to twelve hours a week. I have only ever changed the battery in it three or four times. Not bad over all of those yeas of use. If apple releases a good mouse that is a miser like that I could care less if it requires batteries.

Nothing like not being able to do your work because you are recharging your mouse batteries for 8 hours.

That's what Full Keyboard Access is for.

Unless of course your keyboard batteries die at the same time...
