Hey all, I'm required to get an external firewire drive for my editing class, and I was wondering if you guys knew of any good deals? It doesn't have to be big, 60gb is plenty. Midway through the semester I expect my computer to finally come, so at that point the external will be mainly backup; but until then, I need storage so i can work in the labs.

So whatchas got?

Check out OWC (Macsales.com). They just reduced prices on external Firweire drives.

Pick a hard drive you're intersted in and then go to pricegrabber.com to see where the best deal is.

Then go to techbargains.com and click on coupons and see if the vendor with the best deal has any additional discounts (techbargains.com usually only has well known vendors on their list).

One more thing, after checking pricegrabber.com for the best deal go to resellerratings.com to see ratings of that vendor.

I have a couple of OWC Mercury Elite enclosures that I put my own drives in, and they've worked great. However, they're designed to support drives of 128 GB or more - if you only plan to use a 60 GB drive, you can find cheaper enclosures like these:

The cheapest prices for bare drives are usually at newegg.com and googlegear.com. However, if you check dealmac.com every day, you can usually find even cheaper rebate deals. And I've seen some great rebate deals on ready-made Maxtor FW drives as well.
