Has anyone ever figured out the sharing of printers on a network?

I have a network with 3 macs and a PC. The macs are running OS X. Connected to one of the Macs is two USB printers... a Lexmark X83 and a HP Deskjet 5150. Connected to an Asante wireless router's parallel port is a Postscript laser printer.

So, on the PowerMac with the printers attached, I went and set up both USB printers. And I can print from it to each printer. Printer sharing is on. I also add a IP printer using the IP address of my router. The computer happily/instantly prints to it... but nothing comes out. That's problem #1.

Now, I go to my iMac. From PrintCenter, I indeed see three pink printers in the Printers List. Good. Then I go into Excel and try to print. First the Lexmark... no problem. Then the HP... as soon as I hit "Print", the program unexpectedly quits. So, I try TextEdit... same behavior. That's problem #2.

Now I go to my PowerBook. It sees the three pink printers. I can print to each and all seems to go fine (no unexpectedly quitting). But nothing comes out of any of the printers, not even the Lexmark. That's problem #3.

As long as we've had 10.2, printer sharing's behavior has been a mystery. (My whole list is much longer.) Does anyone understand it?

Any suggestions on the three problems above?
