Looking for ipod with
1) SPDIF in/out like MD players
2) same or more hdd space
3) defrag button on the fly hehe incase you need to
4)capable of WiFi for connection to my Powerbook 17" extreme Airport! So I can Stream iTunes Playlist! both directions capable...

I want to get the SPDIF option as top priority cause I had a Sony MD RZ900 for years and it was a great tool for my music recording from professional gear outputting in 48 and 96 bit..such as synthesizers from Korg or Yamaha. Now the thing is dead and I like iPod except that it doesn't do SPDIF!
I hope Apple is listening!

How many agree with me on this? Do a poll!my homepage with pictures of my home studio my xanga site

Isn't if funny how the night before the 40 gig iPod comes out, I post an iPod WIsh list request. Seriously, the new iPod is just a dream come true (except for the SPDIF thing I wanted and an airport connection for the Macs to broadcast back and forth from...But I don't want to be a brat or anything..3 cheers for new iPod! Its still a feat undefeated by other MP3 devices! Go Apple.my homepage with pics and link my music demo and diary page my email

OK no one is responding to this post, so I might as well continue to come up with ideas for Apple to get for iPod considering that they have already come out with a new one as we speak. A nice add on accessory that Apple can make is a Firewire based connection add on device to the iPod for Airport Extreme capabilities....so that the songs can be streamed to Powerbooks and PowerMacs, iMacs, and iBooks with WiFi Capabilities! What do you think? However the cool thing for me is to have some sort of SPDIF input/output doing 96 bits of audio...hehe

I think your requests are a bit too high end for what is really a consumer level device.

Rumors are that some sort of recording may come to be iPod, but it will probably be more for "voice quality" recording than the Pro stuff you're asking for.

As for AirPort Extreme: even Pocket PCs have trouble using WiFi / 802.11b / AirPort effectively, and they have a much more powerful processor than the iPod.

Oh, I forgot that its a consumer level product! Silly me! It just looks so professional! But then again Macs always do! GO Apple go! Still holding my thoughts on such a request though...Incase Apple sees it and decides to come out with a more professional grade iPod. Just an SPDIF in and out upgrade to the unit doesn't seem out of the realms of technological features. I guess I can forget about Airport being incorporated....But think of the possibilities if it did have Airport extreme. Clubs for iPoding would sprout like crazy with people in a virtual line to play their requests from their iPods instead of just the DJs having fun. Maybe I'm too futuristic or maybe I should be working for Apple Computers.
Thanks for any comments

Oh by the way check out my new Demo Reel and Teaser of my short film "THE OTHER HALF" at my webpage homepage or go directly to the DEMO SHOWREEL page if the geocities site is down My New Showreel and Teaser Quicktime needed

how about something like a ipod firewire multimedia card reader (for downloading those digital photo's on the road) or able to hook up to your dv camera to store video

I've asked many around about the video capabilities of the iPod from the Genious Bar in SOHO NY. And the aswers range from "possible" to "forget about it". The later being that (supposedly) the drive is not as fast to do dv work AND it will fragment your hard drive in the iPod (Thus my 2nd request (having an on the fly Defrag button) And as stated by another reply, the iPod is a consumer based product. If they can't put in a SPDIF in and out port, I don't think they woudl even bother with video. But infact it doesn't seem all that far fetched considering that they have things like iSight around. Its a firewire based eye ball with ears! The iPod is firewire based as well, but the chip isn't strong enough for processing video. (my theory so I apologize if I am wrong to the Brilliant Mac Engineers) On a side note....I guess the Mac needs a Pro Version of the iPod that stores Music, has color display, and does DV video with extreme Airpot! OH WAIT, MY BAD, THEY ALREAY HAVE THAT THING CALLED THE 12"Powerbook! hahahaha
