Just curious, since Apple says you can sync the iTMS files to as many iPods as you want, could you email a song to someone, have them add it to their library (not play it on their computer - that would require authorization), and then they could sync it to their iPod and play it (obviously they allow as many iPods as you want, since there is no way to 'authorize' an iPod.
Or do you need to authorize a song just to sync it to your iPod - just curious....

They will not even transfer unless they're authorized.

What about if you transfer it to one ipod, then use the finder or some utility to copy it to the others ipod. I bet it would work then

You're saying that you can't copy files to another machine that are from the iTMS? that's not right, is it?

No, he's saying that iTunes won't move it to the iPod unless they are authorized. You can copy them to another machine just like any other file.

As far as I can tell, if it isn't synched by iTunes, then the iPod wont recognize it to play it - even if the file is there. Probably a directory listing is written to the iPod with a sync, possibly editable?
The amount of hacking that I have seen with regard to the iPod is pretty small. If you could figure out the structure of the file telling the iPod what songs it has, and copy the AAC file to the correct spot on the iPod File structure, I bet it would play despite not being authorized....
Anyone capable? I dare you...

Just be aware that under the DMCA you can't legally defeat this copy protection scheme. Doesn't bother me if you do it, just saying (esp. if you're posting in a public place).

If you own the song and both iPods, then there is no problem. You can transfer songs to any number of iPods as long as the computer is authorized to play them. What we are discussing is whether you can add a song to an iPod if your computer isn't authorized to play it. And the answer is no.

Well: "could you email a song to someone, have them add it to their library (not play it on their computer - that would require authorization), and then they could sync it to their iPod and play it"
At any rate plugging the iPod into an authorized computer should allow this.
