I'm using iSync to sync with my Palm V, but it only works about half the time.

I start the hotsync from the cradle, it loads the progress window fine, then says it's syncing iSync conduit, and iSync runs and displays its window--so far, all's normal.

Half the time, iSync then syncs and everything finishes correctly. The other half the time, iSync just sits there--no spinning icon, no blue progress bar. HotSync never catches on and just waits indefinitely. I have to manually cancel on both the mac and palm. If I hotsync again, it works fine.

Has anyone seen this behavior? Any ideas what to do to get iSync to run every time?

Details: Palm V running 3.5.3, Keyspan USA-19 serial to USB adapter, driver v1.4, Palm Desktop 4.0, iBook 500, OS X 10.2.6

What versions of iSync and iSync conduit do you have? The most recent of iSync is 1.1 the Apple conduit I've got is 3.0.1 (I got this second number from the /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/Conduits folder).

What's your iSync configuration like? Do you have other devices that could be hanging iSync up? If there are other devices, try disabling them and see if that changes anything. Also, in iSync for your palm, trying having only one thing sync (like your addressbook or calendar) at a time. Work your way through it that way. Does your hotsync generate an error in the log file?

I had a nightmare setting up my mother's Handspring with iSync last night - I kept on disconnecting midway through the sync.

I found my problem was that the cradle didn't have enough USB bandwith - make sure it is connected to a powered USB port (not the keyboard ones.)

Also if you have high bandwidth USB devices (e.g. EyeTV ) unplug them. See if it makes a difference.

I've got versions 1.1 of iSync and 3.0.1 of the conduit, latest versions as far as I know. The palm is the only thing I've got in iSync, so there's nothing else in the way there. I'll try your suggestion about syncing one thing at a time. The only error message is that hotsync was canceled--if i don't cancel it, it just waits forever. Does iSync create it's own log somewhere?

as far as USB, it's the only thing plugged in, and directly to the iBook's USB port.
